Alma Cannes 2018

alma wins 4 years in a row at Cannes

As the 2018 Cannes Lions Festival wraps up, roughly 2.5% of its 32,372 entries received the most prestigious creative award in the ad industry. Among them, ALMA was awarded a Bronze Film Lion with Tobacco Free Florida for “Reasons” as well as 5 shortlists in Radio and Print. This is the 22nd Lion for ALMA in 6 years – the most awarded Hispanic agency in the U.S. historically.

Reasons,” the first original cessation TV campaign produced for Tobacco Free Florida, is a film series featuring touching personal testimonies of real smokers in the rural areas of Florida. This is the second Cannes-awarded campaign for the brand, which also won 4 Lions in 2016 for the “Tobacco Downs” and “Auctioneer” radio spots with ALMA.

“Our agency’s primary goal is to produce the best creative and effective campaigns for our partners,” says Luis Miguel Messianu, CEO Creative Chairman of ALMA.  “Florida’s smoking rate is currently at an all-time low and the work is consistently winning the top creative awards in the world. That’s a point of pride for us.”

Another agency client, Miami-Dade Animal Services, received 3 shortlists for the “Rescue” print campaign, which questions “Who rescues who” each time an animal is adopted from the shelter. The agency also had two shortlists in Radio Lions, one in scripts for Pure Touch Water Filters “Water Love,” and one in sound design for Histeria Music’s “Resignation.”

“Receiving awards is always nice,” says Alvar Suñol, Co-President and Chief Creative Officer of ALMA. “But winning for several clients in different categories, several years in a row, that’s what tells us we’re doing a solid job across the board. It makes all the effort, and the hours that our team and brand partners contribute, worthwhile.”
